Hi I am Sarah. I have worked as a Nanny and childcare provider in 4 countries including right here in Halifax. I have my Early Childhood Education certification and I have one son who is 4 and a baby; she is turning 1 in February. I am a caregiver to 4 other children through Sackville Family Daycare.
And I am Katherine. I have one 4 and a half year old son and am a caregiver to 5 other children through Sackville Family Daycare. This April I will be taking the next step and train to become a CRST instructor.
When our older children were infants, we realized that this car seat thing wasn’t as easy as we thought it would be. So we trained to become CRST’s (Children’s Restraint Systems Technicians) so that our children, the children in our care, and as many other children as we could reach would ride safer.
What do we do?
We started with a Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/atlanticcarseatsafety where we could answer questions and post daily questions, tips, tricks and sales. We are proud to say that we are now at 500 fans and growing everyday. Most of our members are local to our area, in the Maritime and Atlantic provinces of Canada.
We volunteer with Child Safety Link (based out of the IWK children’s hospital) in Halifax, Nova Scotia on Child Passenger Safety awareness programs. We provide workshops and clinics in the HRM area and beyond to help parents learn what’s important when buying, installing and using a car seat or booster seat.
Now we are adding a blog to our online toolkit, to expand our reach and educate more parents and caregivers about some of the common myths and problems with children in seats and demonstrate how easy it can be to use them correctly.
What are some of the things you should look for on this blog?
- Updates of what we are doing with events, workshops and clinicsLists of seats, with pros and cons to help you make buying decisions.
- Tips and common misuse scenarios.
- And photos! We’re going to be aiming to take photos of everything so that you can can clearly see what we are talking about. (If we get behind on this, feel free to comment and remind us!)
Our main goal is to put the information in your hands – providing you, with the help you need to protect every child, on every ride.
Remember we want to hear from you! Please feel free to comment or email us if you have further questions!
